Windsurf, an editor built around an AI agent

Windsurf is a fork of VS Code with an agent called Cascade sitting at its centre. Rather than autocompleting the line you are on, it reads across your repository, proposes multi-file changes, runs commands and shows you a diff to accept or reject. Your existing VS Code extensions, keybindings and themes carry over on first launch.

Who gets the most from it

Developers working in unfamiliar or messy codebases, where the value is in the agent tracing context you have not read yet. If your work is mostly small edits in files you know well, a plain autocomplete tool may be enough and cheaper.

How to redeem

  1. Create an account and download the editor for your platform.
  2. Open Settings and choose Upgrade to Pro.
  3. Apply an offer or verify a student email where the deal calls for it.

Worth knowing

Windsurf rarely issues public discount codes, so the real savings sit in the free tier, the Pro trial and student verification. Paid plans are metered in prompt credits, and agent runs consume them faster than simple completions, so watch your usage in the first month before you size a team plan.
